Cowrie Shell Creel Pendant
This sterling silver creel pendant is entirely made by hand and contains a real Cowrie shell collected from an Orkney beach. As each pendant is made to fit each shell there are slight variations to the size. The average size of the whole pendant including the bail is 23-30 mm. Can be made with your own shell.
In Orkney, Cowries are called Grotie Buckies and are said to bring luck to the bearer. It’s a great sport trying to spot these tiny shells on the shoreline and sometimes it can get quite competitive to see who can collect the most.
There are two spieces of Cowries found in Orkney. Northern Cowrie, which has no markings and the slightly larger European Cowrie which have 3 spots on their backs.
Comes in a gift box ready to be presented to that special person!
All online orders also come in a paper gift bag with a polishing cloth, jewellery care instructions and a small organza bag of seashells collected from my local beach

Marion Miller Jewellery
Marion Miller’s passion for the Orkney Islands is long established and provides much inspiration for her work. The natural environment of the islands and elements provide inspiration for the shapes and forms of all her pieces. Having lived near the coast most of her life, Marion’s jewellery reflects her passion for the ever-changing nature of the sea, shore and natural world. Originally from the west coast of Sweden, she trained as a jeweller at Sir John Cass Faculty of Arts in London, graduating in 1996. It was then she started making wave rings, now one of her flagship designs. Her jewellery is designed and created by Marion herself and handmade in her workshop on the Island of Stronsay, overlooking the North Sea and the Sound of Auskerry. Marion works mostly in sterling silver and vitreous enamel in vibrant colours. Many of the pieces are also set with semi-precious gemstones. She uses several traditional enamelling techniques including champlevé and cloisonné. Her range of jewellery consists of highly wearable pieces which are finished to a high standard. From the maker to the wearer, they tell their own story.
